I’m running for Port of Hood River Commission – Position 3 – because I believe in building a more connected, resilient, and forward-thinking community.
As a current Commissioner on the Hood River-White Salmon Bridge Authority, former Naval Aviator, and full-time professional in environmental permitting and infrastructure development, I’ve seen how steady leadership, thoughtful collaboration, and long-term planning can make a real difference.
The Port of Hood River plays a key role in shaping our region’s economy, transportation systems, and quality of life. The decisions we make now will shape the future — and I’m committed to ensuring they reflect our community’s values, protect shared resources, and support responsible, lasting growth.
More About Me:
I’m Kathryn M Thomas, a dedicated leader with a strong commitment to service — from flying Navy helicopters to working in environmental permitting and infrastructure development.
Since relocating to Hood River with my family in 2021, we’ve embraced this community, and I’ve made it my mission to contribute. I currently volunteer as a Commissioner on the Hood River-White Salmon Bridge Authority and work full-time for a small business focused on environmental permitting. My family and I—along with our chocolate lab—are proud to call Hood River home, and I’m committed to ensuring that every decision made at the Port reflects the values and needs of our community.
This photo was taken in March 2025 on the steps of the Capitol — a powerful reminder of how essential strong advocacy is for local infrastructure.
As a representative of the Hood River Bridge Authority, I’ve gained firsthand insight into the funding landscape for our new bridge — experience I’ll bring to the Port Commission to help secure every opportunity for investment and support.
Honored to serve on the Hood River-White Salmon Bridge Authority, a by-state working group formed in 2023. Since then, I've been part of the Engineering & Construction Committee, collaborated with all four treaty tribes to gain support for the new bridge, and led environmental permitting efforts. While I understand the financial investment required to make the new bridge a reality, I’m committed to working with our community and partners to secure the necessary funding and ensure this vital infrastructure project moves forward.
Let’s move forward — together.
